'We asked Julian to undertake the work for our oak-framed extension, a project which involved all the building work save the construction and erection of the frame. 

 

Throughout, his multiple skills were obvious, not only his expert carpentry, but the plumbing, electrical work, plastering – all were handled with the same care and craftsmanship. But it was not only his skills which we valued. We appreciated the fact that, for every major decision, Julian was keen to seek our opinions and wishes and that ensured we were content with every aspect of the build which was then tackled with the same calm equanimity. 

 

Throughout, his own enjoyment of the work was in evidence. At one point he uncovered an old bread oven which he was clearly delighted to have found and even more delighted to be able to renovate. It now provides a stunning extra dimension to the wonderful attention to detail that is the hallmark of Julian’s work. 

 

Finally, we counted the fact that Julian is eminently trustworthy as pivotal in ensuring our own peace of mind during what is inevitably a period of upheaval. The whole process was smoothed because we trusted the quality of his work and his careful judgement.'
